Alan Arnold Steffens was born on April 4th, 1958, in Montevideo, Minnesota to Clarence and Cora (Berends) Steffens. On September 15th, 2025, Al left this life on earth, surrounded by family for his eternal life in heaven.
Al graduated from Wadena High School with the class of (1976). Throughout his school years in Wadena, he participated in several sports, with his highest achievements coming in cross country where he was known to his friends as “Skin”. Still to this day, his sisters can remember dropping him off outside of city limits of Wadena and he would run back home. After high school, Al attended Bemidji State University and obtained his degree.
Al started working for a financial institution in Wisconsin. He was able to move his family back to Minnesota in 1993. Throughout the years, Al worked at several financial institutions throughout the metro area where he not only helped his customers, but he made quick friends and lasting connections with anyone he came in contact with.
Al met his wife Lori Bardon, a new teacher to the area at St. Anns’s school in Wadena. They married on June 23rd, 1984. Together they welcomed two amazing children into the world, Jill and Michael. In 2018 Al’s first granddaughter was born to Michael (Blair), McKenzie Steffens. In 2020, his second granddaughter was born to Michael (Blair), Madison Steffens. Al loved his time he spent as their grandpa, or as they referred to him, Bappa.
Al was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He especially treasured his time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Lori Steffens; daughter Jill Steffens; son Mike (Blair) Steffens; granddaughters McKenzie and Madison Steffens; mother Cora Steffens; sisters Lois (Gary) Lawson and Beverly (Tim) Soule; sister-in-law Shelley Steffens; brothers-in-law Bruce (Janelle) Bardon and Brad (Julie) Bardon; sisters-in-law Lisa (Al) Wivell, Lynn Bardon, and Leslie Bardon and a host of extended family and friends.
Al is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Steffens; brother Duane Steffens; father-in-law Willard Bardon and mother-in-law Joan Bardon.
Visitation will be 4-7 PM on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S.; Cottage Grove, MN. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025 at the Church of St. Rita, 8694 80th Street S., Cottage Grove, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service at church. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
