Astrid Alma Nelson

Astrid "Ozzie" Nelson, age 88 of Hastings, Minnesota (formerly of Cannon Falls and Cottage Grove) passed away peacefully at Hastings Senior Living on October 19, 2025.

Astrid was born on July 25, 1937 to August and Gertrud (Masing) Zepig in Libau, Latvia.  She grew up in Germany and took pride in her heritage. Astrid met David Nelson during his Army service in Germany, and they were married in 1959. During their 15 years married they welcomed Michael, Rebecca and Steven into their family. Astrid worked for 3M Chemolite for over 20 years and Cub Foods following retirement. She always enjoyed interacting with her customers and coworkers, photography, bowling, camping, bingo and spending time with family and friends.

Astrid is survived by sons Michael and Steven (Sandi Bondhus); daughter Rebecca (Klaus Pontoppidan); grandchildren Sierrah, Lukas, Zoe and Halle; brother Hellmut and niece Nicole (Christian) Thede. She is preceded in death by her parents August and Gertrud Zepig; grandson Kenyan Nelson and sister-in-law Hetti Zepig.

Memorial Service will be at 11 AM on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a visitation beginning at 10 AM. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
