Carol Gjertsen

Carol Gjertsen, age 86, formerly of the south side of Chicago, IL, passed away on June 9, at the Commons on Marice in Eagan, MN.

Carol was born November 9, 1934 in Chicago to Ernest “Sonny” and LaVerne (LaFrancis) Kerney.  She went to Kelly High School where she graduated in 1952.  During her working career, she started as a secretary at the local 3M for before enjoying the next several years to invest in the lives of her children.  She later returned to work at 3M until her retirement.

She was married to Charles “Chuck” Gjertsen on August 13, 1955 in Chicago and through the years were great “team” in everything they did.  Carol enjoyed bowling, rug hooking and was an avid fan of any professional Chicago sports team.

Chuck passed away in 2001 and recently Carol relocated to Minnesota to be near her son and family.

She is survived by daughter Sharon (Scott) Martin; son Kevin (Sue) Gjertsen; grandchildren Amanda (John) Nowak, Melanie Gjertsen; great-grandchildren Lucas, Lydia and Greta. Preceded in death by husband Chuck; parents; sister Sharon LaPham; brother Robert Kerney.

Memorial service will be 10:00 am, Friday, June 18, 2021 at Five Oaks Church, 4416 Radio Drive, Woodbury, MN 55129. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association.
