Carson Theodore Doty

February 6, 2003 — April 17, 2024

Cottage Grove, Minnesota

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Carson "Theo" Doty on April 17, 2024.

A Memorial Gathering will be held to honor Carson at the River Oaks Golf Course, 11099 Hwy 61, Cottage Grove, on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 pm with a Time of Sharing starting at 3:00 pm.  Information about memorial contributions can be found below.

Carson was born on February 6, 2003, in St. Paul, MN, to David and Penny Doty. He graduated from Park High School in 2021, and later worked there as a promise fellow and freshman soccer coach. On summer breaks, he coached for Cottage Grove United, and was amid completing his junior year at Arizona State University.

With his beautiful blue eyes, quirky personality, witty responses, and radiant smile, Carson's magnetic presence illuminated every room he entered. Art was one avenue through which he expressed his creativity. He loved strumming his guitar, sketching, listening to music, and hamming it up. Soccer fueled his spirit. Whether playing, watching, or coaching, he approached the beautiful game with infectious enthusiasm, inspiring those around him to strive for greatness. Mostly though, Carson embraced people. He was expert at seeing others, knowing them, and including them. Nothing brought him greater joy than watching someone he'd invested in do well.

If Carson had one dollar, he would spend two, and give away four. He loved Coca-Cola, hot dogs swimming in mustard (anything swimming in mustard, really), a good chocolate bar, chicken pasta feeds, the city of Paris, playing FIFA and pick-up games of soccer, and the Liverpool Football Club and their signature tune, You'll Never Walk Alone. He was averse to pain, spiders, manual labor, driving the speed limit, adjusting his music on the fly, and having a conversation without his air pods in...and we would give everything we own to have him back for just one more minute.

Carson is survived by his parents, David and Penny; sister, Kylie, and brothers, Cooper and Koby; nephews, Beckham and Mason; grandparents, Martha Doty of Lee's Summit, MO, and James and Pat Fultz of Colleyville, TX; his girlfriend, Reya Adoni, of Fremont, CA; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ted and Jeanne Hovde, and Roland and Sue Doty. This extraordinary young man and beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, and friend will be dearly missed by all, especially his extended soccer family in the Cottage Grove area and at Arizona State University.

Memorial contributions will be directed to the Cottage Grove United Soccer Club, which was near and dear to Carson's heart.  Checks can be written to "CGU-FBO "Doty Family". Electronic contributions can be made through Venmo (@Jenny-West-23) or by scanning the QR Code below in the "photo gallery."
