Cindy Renae Aune

Cindy Aune, 68, of Cottage Grove, MN, passed away on April 15th, 2026, after an 10-year battle with Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease.

She was born on March 23rd, 1958, in St. Paul, MN, to Maurice "Maurie" and Marcine Olson. Cindy grew up in Eagan, MN, and then attended MSU Mankato to attain her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. She worked as a special education teacher for a few years before starting office work at FOK, then at Northwest Airlines. Later, she returned to her roots of working with children with disabilities as a special education paraprofessional in Cottage Grove. She was a caring woman who believed everyone deserved the best education and life. She truly loved working with children who needed her the most.

Cindy Aune is survived by her husband Mike; daughter Nicole (Brian) Prom; grandchildren Carson, Owen and Evan; her siblings Pam (Ted) Oslund and Keith (Vicky) Olson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and other family members.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Oak Terrace Memory Care, where Cindy spent her last couple of years.

Funeral service will be at 11 AM on Monday, April 27, 2026 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Blvd Cottage Grove, Minnesota with visitation beginning at 10 AM. All are invited to a luncheon to follow. Graveside service will be at Newport Cemetery, Newport Minnesota after the luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or SoWashCo Schools, where Cindy worked. In comments for SoWashCo, please note "Donation to the Special Education program at Grey Cloud Elementary in honor of Cindy Aune."
