Craig was born August 7,1951 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Gustav and Mary Catherine Birttnen. They moved to Cottage Grove, Minnesota in 1958. Craig attended St. Thomas Catholic school. He graduated from Brady High School in 1969. Craig received an associates degree from Normandale College. He worked as a job coach for Lifeworks Services teaching job skills and daily living skills to people with developmental and physical disabilities. He was also passionate about working at Irondale High School in the theatre department where he designed and built sets.
Craig met Tracy Reynolds while building sets for Burnsville Community Theatre. They were married in 1991 and had two children; Hannah Lee and Donald Anthony.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Craig is survived by his wife, Tracy; children, Hannah Morton (Brodigan) and Donald Birttnen; his brother, Jeffery Birttnen (Jean); and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be August 1, 2026 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at Newport United Methodist Church, 1596 11th Ave Newport, MN 55055. Lunch to follow. Casual dress and Hawaiian shirts encouraged. Private family internment at Grey Cloud Island Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Locally Grown Community theatre or Newport United Methodist church.
