Dale Marquardt

March 15, 1928 — January 20, 2023

Cottage Grove

Dale Marquardt, age 94, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 20, 2023.

Funeral Service 11 AM with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Blvd, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. Interment will follow at Cottage Grove Cemetery.

Dale Edward Marquardt was born March 15th, 1928 to parents Edward and Frieda (nee Kampmeier) along with his twin sister Doris. They were the second and third of five children (oldest Maxine, with Bernice and Allen following) and were raised on a farm in Chokio, Minnesota. In 1952, Dale met Harriet Goerdt at a local dance, and they were married on December 26th, 1953. They spent the first five years of their marriage farming, until they moved their family to the Twin Cities and Dale began working for Western/Delta Airlines. Together, Dale and Harriet raised their five children; Sheila, Terry, Linda, Scott, and Jean in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. He retired after 33 years and Dale and Harriet began spending their winters in Arizona, where they made many lasting friendships.

Dale’s life was full of people and hobbies that he loved. He enjoyed gardening and always had the most beautiful flowers. He loved to go dancing with Harriet; they polka’d and foxtrotted into their 90s. Dale was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed learning about history. He also loved rooting for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Dale was a devoted husband, sharing 69 loving years with Harriet. He was a hardworking father and a proud grandfather. He was a man of strong faith and led a life rich in love. Dale touched so many lives and will be truly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Preceded in death by infant daughter, Sonia; parents, Edward and Frieda (nee Kampmeier); and two sisters, Maxine Siegel and Bernice White. Survived by beloved wife of 69 years, Harriet (nee Goerdt); children, Sheila (Ab) Hilo, Terry Marquardt (Gary Donahue), Linda (Dan) Draxton, Scott (Barb) Marquardt, and Jean (Tim) Anderson; grandchildren Angela Hilo (Ryan Feiner), Nicole Hilo, Jacob (Mary) Draxton, Andrea (Dan) Carey, Megan (Brett) Wetterling, Danny Marquardt (Hannah Wise), Karly and Maren Anderson; great-grandchildren, Teagan and Landon Carey; twin sister, Doris Bjorlin; brother, Allen (Eileen) Marquardt; many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
