Donald Peter Anderson, 87, son of Carl Edward and Ruth Hildur Anderson (deceased). Brother to Virginia Anderson. Husband of 58 years to Penelope Anderson. Father to Peter, Joshua (Jen), Larissa (Rob) Johnson. Grandfather ("Grandpa Stieg") to Clay, Carly, Joanna, Charlotte, Penelope, and Berg.
Don grew up in a multi-generation Swede Finn family in Chicago, Illinois. Turning down his dad's offer to join his painting business, Don went off to serve our country in the US Army, stationed in Germany. When he returned, Don discovered his natural ability for working with computers. Some of his closest friendships grew during his time working in Chicago at Continental Bank and Topco Associates, where he spent the next 40 years of his life. A few years after retiring, Don and Penny moved to Minnesota to be closer to family.
Don enjoyed many things including War Birds airplanes, daily walks with his dog, his morning sudoku, Chicago-style hot dogs, and the Chicago Cubs. He loved all kinds of music, but especially classical and bluegrass. He was not a big talker, but he was funny. He had wit and charm. Although he loved to travel, his favorite place to be was at their cabin on Hagerman Lake, in the quiet beauty of the Upper Peninsula.
Mostly, Don was a man of deep faith. He loved God and was committed to following Jesus Christ. He spent all of his free time with his wife, family, and dear friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on October 24, 2025, with a family graveside service at Fort Snelling at 9:15 am, followed by a 1:00 pm memorial service at Meetinghouse Church in Edina. MN.
