Donovan "Don" Halbakken

Donovan "Don" Halbakken, age 79 of Hastings, formerly of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025 at his home.

Don was born in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota to Lloyd and Norma Halbakken. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and upon returning home, he began his career with GE. Don was a proud member of AA for 42 years where he made many wonderful friendships. He enjoyed drawing, woodworking, sudoku and playing cribbage. Don loved spending time with others, sharing stories, and bringing a chuckle or groan with his humor.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patti; sons Dave and Mike (Holly); precious grandchildren Kendall (Tristyn) Hildman, Keegan and Kierstin Halbakken; sisters Bev (Paul) Solum, Pat (Allan) Hoff, Cindy (Howie) Farr and three nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Norma and one sister Shirley Bilden.

Memorial service will be 2 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior from 1-2 PM. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
