Doris McShea, age 94, passed away peacefully at Norris Square on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Doris was born in Osakis, MN to James and Evelyn Clancy. She graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1949 where she participated in girls' sports despite being affected by polio in childhood. She never complained about any hardships she experienced, rather carried a gratitude that followed her all her life.
Doris married Charles McShea in March of 1957, as close to St. Patrick's Day as possible. Charlie was her great love, and he gifted her a beautiful and full life. They moved to Cottage Grove in 1960 where she became a life-long member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Paul Park.
Beyond sports, her biggest passion was giving, especially to those in need. Anyone from family to strangers, she would invite over for meals. She had the incredible ability to arrange large charitable events, often recruiting the help of her children and friends. The 50th Anniversary event at St. Thomas was started by Doris and still continues to this day. Her large events were always at the benefit of others and her charity greatly improved the lives of others in countless ways. She gave in a truly Christian way, never expecting anything in return.
She was an auxiliary member of the VFW and was the head of the Women's Auxiliary. She loved playing Bingo and watching Poker. She enjoyed bowling and loved watching her grandchildren play sports and would attend as many hockey and baseball games as she could. She followed professional sports, especially the old North Stars hockey team. Later in life, her children would keep her on top of her sports schedule so she could watch the Wild, Vikings, and Twins games on TV.
Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles McShea; parents James and Evelyn Clancy; daughter, Georgia; son-in-law, Bob Christianson; brother, Donald Michaelson; sister, Nora Solheim; and other beloved family members.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Mary) McShea, Pam (Brad) Studler; grandchildren, Todd Christianson, Amy (Jake) Shingledecker, Missy Studler (Garrett), Holly (Jason) Hoveland, Kari McShea, Brian McShea (Kate), Kaitlyn (Gabe) Torning, Nathan (Mariah) McShea; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Fran Gustafson; and many friends and family.
Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 13 2026 with visitation one hour prior at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park, MN 55071. Committal service will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
The family would like to share a special thank you to Presbyterian Homes for the wonderful care she received.
