George "Fred" Dorn

George Frederick Dorn, age 68, of Newport, Minnesota passed away on January 8, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Fred was born on May 1, 1957 to George and Joan (Wardman) Dorn in St. Paul, Minnesota. At a young age, he was drawn to building things and followed his path into construction industry. He worked as a home remodeler and specialized in door and window installation. 

Fred was a passionate outdoorsman who cherished fishing and hunting. He took great care in ensuring that the birds, deer, squirrels, and other wildlife were well-fed, often providing them with better meals than he himself enjoyed. Fred’s favorite pastimes included stock market trading, playing blackjack, savoring watermelon juice, indulging in Boston cream donuts with coffee, and relishing a good meal. His family will always treasure his nightly phone calls, his sharp wit, and his honest, straightforward nature. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his wife of 20 years Kristy; step-children Tony and Tania; step-grandchidren Alex, Brayden and Andrew; siblings Brenda White, Darrell (Cary) Dorn and Stephanie (Jack) McGrane; nieces and nephews Jon, Jake, Julia, Danielle, Jessica and Sabrina; as well as great nieces and nephews Harper, Hudson, Jay and Sydney. He is preceded in death by parents George and Joan Dorn; brother-in-law Craig White and parents-in-law Roger and Frances Agre.

Memorial service will be at 11 AM on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Kok Funeral Home 7676 80th St. S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a visitation beginning at 10 AM prior to the service. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
