James "Jimmy" Young

James "Jimmy" Young, age 59 of Woodbury, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2026 after a long-term battle with alcoholism. 

Jimmy William Young was born on November 19, 1966 to Arthur and Mary Ann (Slomkowski) Young. He grew up in Columbia Heights graduating from the High School in 1985. He studied to become an engineer before moving to Fridley for a short time. He later moved to Princeton where he lived for many years but most recently he and Karen made their home in Woodbury to be closer to family. He was a lifelong engineer and a long-time employee of Al-Flex retiring a year ago.

Jimmy and Karen enjoyed road trips, exploring different areas. They also put their hearts into fostering, helping transfer and adopting rescue dogs. Jimmy will be remembered for his good sense of humor and quick wit. He will be deeply missed by all.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Karen; children Michael (Jess) Olson and Crissy (Mike) Oertel; grandchildren Ariah, Amelia and Soren as well as other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Mary Ann (Slomkowski) Young.

A Celebration of Life will be at 5 PM on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Kok Funeral Home 7676 80th St. S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a visitation beginning at 4 PM. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
