Janet E. Gornick 75, of Cottage Grove died peacefully on April 16, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM, Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Avenue, St. Paul Park with visitation starting at 9 AM.  Interment St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. Memorials preferred to her family; Attn: Carolyn Larson.

Janet was born on May 23, 1942 to Frank and Philomina (Thomas) Fettig in Dickinson, North Dakota.  She grew up in Killdeer, North Dakota where she graduated from high school in 1960.  She met Ralph Gornick and they were united in marriage in July 18, 1964 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in West St. Paul.  They raised their family in Cottage Grove where she was active at St. Thomas Aquinas with Marriage Encounter as well as serving as a Eucharistic minister.  Janet and Ralph were foster parents for over 27 years and had an immeasurable commitment for taking young people into their home and showing them love and compassion.  Janet served as an administrative assistant for a variety of attorneys in the metro area throughout her working careers.  She loved her family and will be deeply missed.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of the compassionate staff at Our Lady of Peace Home who cared for Janet as well as her family in their time of need.

She is survived by her children Carolyn Larson, Jason (Susana); grandsons, Kierron McGruder and Jaren; siblings, Jerry (Maryanne) Fettig, Angela Stalma and Lenore Hale and many other relatives and friends.  Preceded in death by her husband Ralph; parents Frank and Philomina; siblings Kathleen Fettig, Arlene Brosky, Evelyn Fettig and Donald Fettig.
