Jimmy Dale Morton

April 10, 1939 — December 11, 2025

Hastings, Minnesota

Jimmy D. Morton, age 86, of Hastings, Minnesota passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Jimmy was born on April 10,1939 to William and Luella (Bailey) Morton in Van Buren, Arkansas. While young, the family moved to Hawthorne, California where he grew up.

Jimmy (age 14) started flat track speed skating competitions. He dabbled in Roller Derby until he got hurt. Then Roller Derby was out but continued flat track racing where he met his wife, Glenda (age 13). Jimmy quit school to work construction at age 16 to help take care of the family after his dad hurt his back. From that time forward, his life career was an amazing contractor who could build, wire, plumb, fix, etc. anything. Jimmy and Glenda married in 1959, had a family and moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in the seventies where he worked for Gas Supply Propane Company until he retired in his sixties. He loved getting his hands dirty under the hood of a car from an early age. He purchased many cars during his lifetime just to break them down to build them up only to have them sold before anyone knew it. He was known for his strong work ethics, getting the job done and his chocolate addiction. He was always prepared with his tape-measure hanging on his belt everywhere he went and chocolate in his pocket. Give him a hammer, he was off fixing things. He loved to play and tease the kids. He was the instigator but would blame the kids when they got too loud. He had a sarcastic, and quick-witted personality that made everybody laugh. He had the greatest sense of humor. He was a fun, loving, honest husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, brother and friend. The best times were when he would crack himself up and get laughing so hard that he couldn’t stop. You will be greatly missed by all those lucky enough to have known and loved you.

Preceded in death by parents, William and Luella; daughter, Terri; brother, Doris Wayne; son-in-law, Robert. Survived by wife of 66 years, Glenda; daughters, Shelly Sachwitz, Sheryl (John) Myers; grandchildren, Shane (Jaclyn), Stacy (Chad), Brandon (Becky), Daryl (Brittany), Melanie, Megan, Jimmy; great grandchildren, Makayla (Gerad), Adilyn, Lucas, Peyten, Daryl Jr., Charlotte, Lainey, Hailey; great great grandchildren, Parker, Delilah, Anthony; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
