John Kimlinger

October 7, 1958 — February 27, 2024

Hastings

John Joseph Kimlinger, 65, of Hastings passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024. John was born on October 7th, 1958 to Joseph and Patricia Kimlinger of St Paul, MN. He attended Murray High School, went on to attend TVI, and became a diesel mechanic. He worked as such for MNDOT for many years before transitioning into supervisory roles, and later found joy in his position as a buyer/purchaser, which he retired from in October of last year.

Growing up John developed many hands-on skills and was always willing to help with whatever project someone may have been working on. He always took those opportunities to pass on his knowledge by patiently educating and guiding. His ability to teach was probably most evident in his work with young people.

John spent over 30 years in youth ministry through The Harbor Church and impacted countless number of lives with his gentle, compassionate, and loving approach. His immense faith in the Lord and devotion to serving Christ was evident in all areas of his life, and he brought a sense of peace and calm to every situation, John was truly an amazing example of what acceptance and forgiveness look like.

Throughout his life John volunteered in various ways from serving food at homeless shelters, providing first aid at events as a Red Cross volunteer, clearing trails in the Boundary Waters, washing motorcycles at the Free Bike Wash in Sturgis, to the many trips he went on serving and ministering to people in other countries. He was always thinking of others and their needs. Those who knew him never questioned his care and concern for them and because of this he had many close and long-lasting friendships.

After his relationship with Jesus, his family was the most important thing to him. John was a devoted husband who enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, mission outreach, and a hot cup of Folgers; always with his wife Kelly by his side. He taught his children and grandchildren many things, but perhaps the most profound was the importance of being present. He rarely missed cheering them on at a sporting event and would jump at chance to tell others how proud he was of his family's latest accomplishments. He fostered independence, creativity, humor, and integrity, all while being known as a man of few words. His presence will be deeply missed.

John is survived by his wife Kelly, children Kendra (Mark) Kimlinger, Luke (Brittany) McNamara, and Casey Kimlinger; his grandchildren Aliyah, Zeke, Rai'Jean, Zoey, Garrison, and Madeline; his brothers Mike (Terri), Tom (Lisa), and Paul (Andy); as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Patricia Kimlinger and granddaughter Lanaia Shumpert.

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing." -Pele
