John William Schurmeier III, age 71 of Maplewood, Minnesota passed away on Sunday May 17, 2026.

John dedicated 25 years of his life working as a mechanic for Metro Transit before retiring. He had a natural curiosity and patience when it came to electronics, always enjoying the challenge of figuring out how things worked. John enjoyed playing video games, something he continued to enjoy throughout his life. He will be remembered by his nieces and nephews as a big-hearted uncle who loved spending time with them John will be remembered for his thoughtfulness and generosity. Although he faced many health struggles, he continued to carry a great sense of humor and quiet spiritual strength.

John is survived by his siblings Debra and Steven (Ginny); many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to John's best friend, Mike Bappert for all his kindness and support. He is preceded in death by his parents Joylyn and John "Bill"; brother David and sister Terry Anne.

A Memorial Service honoring John and his mom, Joylyn (who passed away the day before him) will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 8435 St. Croix Trail, Hastings with a visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM. All are invited to a luncheon following the service. A private interment will take place at Cottage Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove, MN.
