Judith “Judy” Prowse, age 63 of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2020 with her loving husband by her side.
Judith Patricia (Thielen) Prowse was born March 22, 1957 in St. Paul, Minnesota to George and Mary Jane (Pfeifer). She grew on the East side of St. Paul, the oldest of 6 children and graduated from Harding High School in 1976. She had met David Prowse a few years prior and they were later married on July 5, 1980 in Coon Rapids. They lived in St. Paul for several years before moving to Cottage Grove in 1995.
She attended Fairview Deaconess School of Nursing in Minneapolis, graduating in 1985. Through the years, Judy worked at the VA Hospital in the Telemetry Department, United Hospital as a nurse, Fairview where she did home health care, Health Partners as a diabetic educator, as well as a hospice home health nurse. Most recently, she worked at the Allina Cottage Grove Clinic and Hometown Senior Living.
She enjoyed going all kinds of vacations, whether it was “road tripping” or going on boat cruises. Judy was considered a “social butterfly” and made friends with virtually everyone she met. She enjoyed volunteering at Crossroads Church as a children’s ministry worker for over 20 years and served as the parish nurse at a variety of events and numerous missions trips to places like Uganda, Central America and various places in the USA.
Judy is survived by her husband David; daughter Sara; mother Mary Jane; siblings Lori (Verne) Mitchell, Larry (Vicki) Thielen, Dan (Kate) Thielen, Joe Thielen and Sharon Thielen as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father George Thielen.
Memorial service will be 11 am, Friday, September 18, 2020 at Crossroads Church, 7955 Ivystone Ave., S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S., Cottage Grove. Face coverings will be required at both events.
