With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Judith "Judy" Schumann, age 71, of Cottage Grove, MN, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Judy passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 6, 2025.
Memorial Service will be at 11 AM on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a visitation from 10-11 AM prior to service. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
Judy was born on June 8, 1953, in St. Cloud, MN to Ralph and Virginia (Knaus) Zinken. She grew up in St. Cloud and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1971. She became a lifelong resident of Cottage Grove, MN in 1982. Judy spent many years doing what she did best, which was being the most excellent stay-at-home mom. She was so pleased with the home she kept, and it was important for her to provide home-cooked meals for her family every, single evening. As her children grew, she went to work as a Pharmacy Technician and spent many years in that role for Snyder Pharmacy in Woodbury, MN. In 1995 she went back to school and earned her associate degree. Judy was very proud of her degree and found her niche career with University of Minnesota Physicians in health information compliance. Judy has been able to enjoy many beautiful years in retirement.
Judy had a deep love for her family, which was at the center of everything she did. She was known for her generosity, her unforgettable home-cooked meals which nobody could seem to replicate, most notably her lasagna, cheesy potatoes and Christmas cut-out cookies. The joy and sense of family she brought to every family gathering will be her legacy. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and connection where so many memories were made.
Judy was excited by the thrill of a casino and she and Larry enjoyed traveling together and never missed a casino on any of the many road trips they took together. They spent several winters in Laughlin, NV and Gulf Shores, AL.
She will be forever remembered by her grandchildren for the stash of Ring Pops and “Grandma’s Goodie Bags” that she treated them with so often. Judy will be missed for her wonderful meals, genuine spirit, engaging conversation and debate, gift of planning and organization, vibrant personality and most importantly the way she made others feel truly cared for.
Judy is survived by the love of her life, husband Larry; children Stacy (Shawn Brandt) Henrichsen, Chad (Sara) Gohman, Michelle (Tiffany) Shepard, step-daughters Gina (Nick) Magnuson and Jill (Chris) Oswald; grandchildren Ashton (Kat), JaLynn, Danielle, Jamison, Ryder, Ryan, Landon, Julia and Luella; sisters MaryAnn Witschen and Laurie (Roger) Smith, brothers-in-law Jim (Sheri) Schumann, Steve Schumann, sister-in-law Cheryl (Jim) Anderson and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Virginia Zinken, brother-in-law John Witschen, father and mother-in-law Gerald and Venetta Schumann and brother-in-law Craig Schumann.
