Maria de Luz was born in Durango, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and spent most of her life in Nuevo Laredo. A strong and tenacious woman, she overcame the challenges of being widowed at 44 by raising her eight children on her own. Her delicious cooking not only supported her family but also nurtured her children into healthy adults. In her later years, she selflessly dedicated her life to raising her many grandchildren. Driven by the desire for a better life, she immigrated to the United States with her son, Antonio, embodying hard work and resilience as she continued to support her family and guide her grandchildren towards bright futures. Maria was a strong-willed and fierce woman who embraced life with a radiant smile. When it was time to part ways, she said, "It's not goodbye, but a farewell."
