July 19, 1939 - April 12, 2006

Marianne King, 66, of Woodbury, died at The Pillars Hospice Home on Wednesday, April 12th, surrounded by loved ones. Marianne was born in Sedan, MN, the first born daughter of Alvan Curtis King (preceded her in death) and Marian King and lived in Minnesota all her life. She earned her undergraduate degree in English from Bemidji State and her Master's Degree from Winona State. Marianne taught high school English in Bagley, LaCrescent and for 27 years at Park High School in Cottage Grove, retiring in 1996. Her influence on thousands of students over the years is still evident today and her legacy as a teacher lives on in them.

Marianne loved her family and wide circle of friends, reading, needlework, quilting, cats, butterflies and angels. She was an avid fan of sports of all kinds but especially her Minnesota Twins - being a faithful season ticket holder for 24 years. Marianne was also a talented musician and pianist and served as church organist for many years at Woodbury United Methodist Church.

Marianne is survived by her 91 year old mother, Marian of Yucaipa, CA, her sisters, Dorothy (Tom) Gray of Woodbridge, VA; Becky of Hopkins, MN; and Kathy (Rick) Forsman of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by niece and nephews Tim (Fannie) Gray, Mark (Katie) Gray, Peter (Celeste) Gray and Mary Kay (Bret) Svedberg. She is also survived by many loving cousins - special among them - Bob and Beverly Larsen and their children.

The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Carol Entwistle, Dr. Nicole Hartung, the caring staff of the Minnesota Oncology Hematology chemotherapy clinic, the kind nurses and PCAs at Woodwinds Hospital and the gentle caregivers at The Pillars.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Newport United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Newport Cemetery. Visitation 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday April 27, 2006 at Kok Funeral Home in Cottage Grove.
