Mark Michael Ziemer

Mark Ziemer, age 75 of Cottage Grove, Minnesota passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 1, 2025.

Mark was born on October 8, 1950 to Walter and Grace (Swenburg) Ziemer in Fairmont, Minnesota. He grew up in Dunnell, Minnesota. Mark went on to serve in the United States Army, stationed in Germany for two years before serving state side for some years after that. Mark was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lorraine Baumann on December 27, 1971 in North Dakota. He went on to graduate from Mankato State with a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. They settled into the Cottage Grove area in 1980 making a lifelong home to raise their family. The majority of his career was spent working at River Forecast Center in Chanhassen, MN as a Senior Hydraulic Engineer. He retired in April of 2016.

In his spare time Mark enjoyed woodworking projects, tinkering on computers and learning about history particularly regarding World War II often by watching the History Channel. His favorite time though was spent with family especially with the grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all.

Mark is survived by his wife of 53 years Lorraine; son David (Jessica) Ziemer; daughter Elizabeth (Angel) Cortes and grandchildren Lucas, Kathryn, Logan, Liam and Alexander. Mark is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Grace Ziemer. As well as his brother David Ziemer.

Memorial service will be at 12 PM on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th St. S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a visitation beginning at 10 AM. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's or Crohn's disease research.  (*Flowers cannot be accepted due to an allergy issue.)
