Mary Spies

Mary Spies, age 78, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Preceded in death by parents, Clarence and June Spies; brother, Don Spies; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Spies. Survived by daughters, Marni (Matt) Wilson and Shannon (Terry) Hagness; grandchildren, Danny, Abby, Charlie, Lily, and Anni; and siblings, Jeanne Goetzke, Robert Spies, Jacqueline Spies, and Richard Spies; and other loving family and friends.

Mary grew up in the midway area of St. Paul. She attended and graduated from St. Agnes School. In 1977, she moved to Cottage Grove and raised her two girls with her former husband, David Brown. She worked in the finance department at South Washington County Schools for 25 years. She loved dogs and adopted several senior golden retrievers. Mary was an avid fan of the Twins and Gopher hockey, but saved her best cheerleading skills for her grandchildren's various athletic events. Mary was a dedicated and loving grandma and will be greatly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM with visitation beginning at 10 AM, Thursday, May 22, 2025 at the Church of St. Rita, 8694 80th St. S., Cottage Grove, MN 55015. Memorials preferred to RAGOM (https://ragom.org/). Final resting place Cottage Grove Cemetery, Cottage Grove, MN.
