Matthew Aaron Porett

Matthew Porett, age 54, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, November 6, 2023, in Cottage Grove, MN. He was a loyal and devoted husband, son, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed by family and friends all over the world.

Matthew was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 17, 1968, to Jane and Tom Porett. He attended Haverford High School in Havertown, PA. He got his BA in Political Science from Albright College in 1990, and his MA from Lehigh University in 1992. Matthew had a successful and varied career.  He was a dedicated professional who took great pride in his 21 years of service to the State of Minnesota. Matthew spent much of his career in the IT field. His family and friends could always count on him for advice and help with their IT issues.

Matthews’ brilliance was matched only by his wit and made friends wherever he went.  He was known and loved for his loyalty.  His favorite place on Earth was the cottage at Silver Islet that he and his wife, Amanda, shared and enjoyed for over 20 years. He went there every summer of his life and loved boating, campfires and being around friends and family. He was also an avid lover of music, especially The Grateful Dead. He was a news hound who had his pulse on the political landscape who was always ready for a debate on any topic.

Matthew met the love of his life, Amanda (Grant) Porett, in 2002 while out with friends.  They were inseparable since that time.

Besides his wife and family, Matthew’s other big love was dogs. He and Amanda have raised many dogs during their life together.  Matthew lovingly participated and supported Amanda’s love of Labradors.  Together they started raising champion Labs under the name of their kennel, Northern Lights Labradors.  Their Labs have been placed in wonderful homes, donated to Veteran’s organizations and to organizations supporting Autistic children.

Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Porett, grandparents Mary and Jim Cross and Leo and Charlotte Porett. He is survived by his wife Amanda (Grant) Porett, his father Tom Porett, sister Jen Porett, nephews Sam (Godson) and Max Kloepping, his father-in-law Gary Grant (Joy), his mother-in-law Marcia Grant, his brother-in-law Matthew Grant (Maria), niece Sofia Grant and nephew Camilo Grant (Godson).

A gathering to reminisce about Matthew and his beautiful life will be held at Summit Manor, 275 Summit Avenue, St Paul Minnesota 55102 on November 17, 2023, from 4 – 7pm.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
