Paul LaClair, age 87 of Newport, Minnesota passed away on February 18, 2026 surrounded by family.
Paul Norman LaClair was born on August 19, 1938 in St. Paul, MN to Horace and Mary (Calhoun) LaClair. He grew up in the St. Paul area graduating from Monroe High School. As a young man Paul was known as the neighborhood backyard mechanic. He entered the military serving in the Coast Guard from 1957-1959. Paul married Beverly Ackerblade on May 17, 1958. They raised their three daughters in St. Paul later moving to Newport, MN. Paul worked for many years as an auto mechanic at Twin City Auto.
In his spare time, Paul enjoyed boating, camping and cars. He always looked forward to his morning routine visiting with his "McDonald's Crew" that met for coffee everyday except for Christmas. Paul will be remembered for his tender heart for animals especially cats, his quirky kind spirit and love for family. He will be deeply missed by all.
Paul is survived by his wife of 67 years Beverly; daughters Barb LaClair, Cathy LaClair and Ginger (Michael) Monahan; grandchildren Nick (Amy) Wachal, Chris (Angie) Wachal, Shawn (Ashley) Monahan, Amanda (Marc) Reynolds and Kevin Monahan and 11 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Horace and Mary LaClair.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 with visitation one hour prior at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park, MN 55071. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
Graveside service with military honors will take place 12:30 PM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave. S.; Minneapolis, MN- Assembly Area #6 - arrive by 12:15 PM.
