Richard C. “Dick” Bernard, 77 of Cottage Grove, passed away Wednesday morning, December 9, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital in Saint Paul, following a lengthy illness.
Richard C. Bernard was born February 1, 1932 in Hibbing, Minnesota, the son of Louis and Helen (Yates) Bernard. He grew up in the Hibbing area and attended schools there. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and served a tour of duty in Korea. He was united in marriage to Nancy C. Gaugler on July 27, 1957. The couple made their home for a short time in Hibbing and in 1962 moved to Cottage Grove. Dick was employed by the Unites States Postal Service for over 40 years, retiring in the early 1990’s.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of Cottage Grove, his sons, David of Princeton, William of Lino Lakes, daughters, Terri of Minneapolis & Sandra Bernard of Cottage Grove, his grandson, Jeff, father, Louis Bernard & sisters, Phyllis (Ed) Simon of Duluth & Faye (Bob) Prebich of Burnsville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen & son, Jim.
