Richard Joseph Olson

Richard Olson, age 60 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 8, 2026.

Richard was born on February 11, 1966 in Winner, South Dakota. He worked as a commercial painter for more than 25 years and was unfortunately forced to retire early following his cancer diagnosis. Richard enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, carpentry, traveling, and attending church whenever he was able. 

Richard will be remembered for his humor, quick wit, determination, generosity, and willingness to help others in need. He had a deep love for his family, especially his grandchildren. His faith and hope were found in Jesus Christ. He will be forever loved, cherished, and missed by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his son Richard Paul Olson Jr.; grandson Jonathan Olson; siblings Twila Salazar, Constance Olson, Kevin (Ruth) Olson, Dina (Rocky) Smith, Wanda (Derrick) Hendricks, Lori (Richard) Cook and Brigitte (Hayna) Leith as well as many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Olson; significant other Lynette Baker; father Roy Stinehagen; mother Arlene Marie Olson; brother Michael Kelly Olson and nephew Tyler James Olson.

Visitation will take place from 2-7 PM on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Kok Funeral Home 7676 80th St. S.; Cottage Grove, MN. Funeral service will be at 11 AM on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Household of Faith Church, 1090 Chicago Ave. ; St. Paul Park, MN with a visitation one hour prior to service. Graveside service will follow at Newport Cemetery, Newport, MN. All are invited to a luncheon after interment.
