Sharon Rae Wies (nee Burns), age 70, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully Friday, May 23, 2024, after a fierce and determined four-year fight against lung cancer.
She was preceded in death by parents James and Lois Burns and sister Katie.
Survived by her beloved husband Clif of 31 years, daughters Melissa Hemquist (Brenda), Monica Cook (Ross) and son Jason Wies (Rennae), sister Debbie Burns (John), brother James Burns (Jay), grandchildren Maddy (Edan), Megan, Vivian, Chloe, Sophie, and Oliver, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in the Burns, Herriges and Wies families.
She enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on the Rainy River, sitting on the dock looking at the northern lights or on the porch with a cold beer in hand. Despite her diagnosis, Sharon was able to enjoy some traveling, which she loved.
Sharon loved to host family events and holidays. She never missed listening to “Alice’s Restaurant” every Thanksgiving, while cooking and baking all day. Christmas just wasn't Christmas without her homemade breads and cookies; that yearly tin of cookies was a gift everyone eagerly awaited.
She treasured her role as Grandma, showering her grandkids with unconditional love, endless hugs, and homemade treats.
Sharon loved yellow and cheerful summer dresses—feel free to wear something similar in her honor at the service.
In remembrance of Sharon, look for the northern lights, raise a glass, share a story, and a laugh. She will be greatly missed.
Thank you to all who supported Sharon from Minnesota Oncology, Mayo Clinic and Accent Care hospice.
