Therese H. Schiefelbein

January 5, 1966 — June 7, 2025

Cottage Grove

Therese H. Schiefelbein, 59, of Cottage Grove, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in her home.

Therese Helen Schiefelbein was born on January 5, 1966, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Arnold and Helen (Casper) Ludwig. She grew up in St. Paul and attended Johnson High School, where she met her husband of 35 years, Gary Jay Schiefelbein. They graduated in 1984, and she went on to study administration, later becoming a secretary. She spent the majority of her career at Travelers Insurance.

Therese and Jay were married in 1990 and welcomed their first child, Nora, in 1996, followed by their second child, Gavin, in 2001. Therese loved being a mother and spending time with her family. She enjoyed family vacations at rented cabins “up north,” boating, and sunbathing. She had a lifelong fondness for animals and cared for many pets throughout her life. Photography was another passion, especially capturing flowers, butterflies, and, most of all, her children. Therese will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and she will live on in our memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Helen Ludwig, and her siblings Arnold “Bud” Ludwig, Michael “Mike” Ludwig, and Cynthia “Cindy” Ludwig.

She is survived by her husband, Gary “Jay” Schiefelbein; her children, Nora Schiefelbein and Gavin Schiefelbein; and her siblings, Marianne “Mari” (Dean) Sweeney and Thomas “Tom” (Donna) Ludwig.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Details to follow.

In honor of her namesake, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower, we offer these words, which bring comfort in our time of grief:

“The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.”

“Just as the sun shines on all the trees and flowers as if each were the only one on earth,

so does God care for all souls in a special manner.”

“When I die, I will send down a shower of roses from the heavens.”
