Thomas James Detviler

Thomas "Tom" Detviler, age 71 of Cottage Grove, Minnesota passed away on October 28, 2026.

Thomas James Detviler was born on June 22, 1955 to Thomas and Bernice (McCarthy) Detviler in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Park High School in 1973. Tom met the love of his life, Mollie McGraw and they were united in marriage on June 5, 1982. They settled in Cottage Grove to raise their family and have been lifelong residents. For the majority of Tom's career he was employed as a printer and supervisor. Later, he joined the staff at Woodbury High School as a custodian, a role he found especially rewarding. He valued the relationships he developed there and took great pride in the friendships he formed with students, teachers, and coworkers.

Tom enjoyed traveling, especially to the ocean where he could scuba diving. The Boundary Waters was another favorite destination to be out in the great outdoors. Tom was a natural storyteller with a friendly and outgoing personality. He will be remembered for his selfless nature with genuine concern for others, quiet strength and valuing the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Tom is survived by his wife of almost 45 years Mollie; sons Joe (Cassie) and Dan (Alana); grandchildren Remy and Maverick; siblings Donna Savage, Pat (Tim) Donovan and Ron (Laurie) Detviler; sister-in-law Irene Detviler and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Annette "Nettie"; parents Thomas and Bernice; brothers Dick (Penny) and Jerome. 

A visitation will be from 10-11 AM on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a Celebration of Life at 11 AM. All are invited to a luncheon following the service.
