William Rauch Sr.

October 7, 1936 — March 10, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William "Bill" Rauch Sr., who passed away on Tuesday, March 10, in Cottage Grove, Minnesota at the age of 89. Bill is survived by his children, Lynn Rabbitts (Pat Stahl), William "Bill" Jr., Karen Greenwell, and Dave (Robyn); grandson, Nathan; and sisters, Viola Klein, Mary Lee LeMieur, and Janice (Ron) Pryzbilla. Preceded in death by wife Dolores "Dolly" Rauch, parents Peter and Marcella Rauch, son-in-law John Greenwell, and brother-in-law Donald Klein.

William was born on October 7, 1936, in Granite Township, Minnesota to Peter and Marcella Rauch. He married Dolores "Dolly" Gross in 1956 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hillman, Minnesota, after which they moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. They made their home in Cottage Grove in 1959.

Bill was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Dolly, and a proud, caring father whose family meant everything to him. He dedicated his life to providing for and supporting those he loved. Known for his strong work ethic and generous spirit, he approached every day with determination, humility, and kindness.

A true master of many trades, Bill was a talented diesel mechanic and an exceptional woodworker. If something needed fixing, building, or figuring out, he was the person everyone turned to. His hands were rarely still, and his craftsmanship and mechanical skills were admired by many. He took great pride in his work and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Bill also took great pride in his yard. He loved keeping the grass green and tending to the many flowers that brightened the property. One of his simple joys was feeding and watching the birds, spending quiet moments outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature around his home. He was especially fond of his John Deere tractors and enjoyed spending time working on them.

Later in life, his love and devotion to his wife showed in the simplest but most meaningful ways. He took care of Dolly, learning to cook, do the laundry, and manage the home-acts that reflected his deep love and commitment to their life together.

Bill also loved to travel. Alongside his beloved wife Dolly, he explored many parts of the United States and enjoyed numerous cruises together, creating memories that will forever be cherished by their family. He also enjoyed the holiday season and took special pleasure in decorating for Christmas, helping bring warmth and festive cheer to the home each year.

Above all, he will be remembered as a hardworking man, a loyal husband, a wonderful father, and someone who could do just about anything he set his mind to. His ingenious nature, strength, and steady presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Though he may be gone from our sight, the love he gave and the lessons he taught will remain in our hearts forever.
