William Schafer

“Opa” of Cottage Grove lost his six year battle with emphysema on March 1 at the age of 74.

William was born in Keil , Wisconsin . He graduated from Keil High School . He graduated from Lakeland College in Plymouth , Wisconsinwith a chemistry degree after serving four years in the United States Air Force. He loved camping with his family in Howard Lake .

He was preceded in death by his dearly loved middle daughter, Pamy and his parents Meta & Arthur Schafer.

William is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Elsbeth "Beth"; daughter Patsy and husband Brett Kovacs; son Patrick and wife Kara Tipple; and the four grandchildren he was so proud of Corey, Whitney, BreAnna and Cole! also survived by dear niece Rose Sena and her husband John of Albuquerque. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation 1-2pm with a Memorial Service at 2 PM Thursday at the KOK FUNERAL HOME, 7676 80th St. Cottage Grove . A special thank you to family, friends and the HealthEast Hospice Care team who made Opa's final weeks with us comfortable.
