Daniel “Dan” Thomas Bode, age 90, of Cottage Grove, was called home to be with Jesus on September 11, 2020.

Dan served in the Air Force during the Korean war as a mechanic.  He met and fell in love with Marion and they were married on June 15, 1957.  Dan was a devoted and loving husband to Marion and never left her side throughout their 53 years of marriage, until she was called home to be with Jesus in 2010.

He was a terrific father, grandfather and great-grandfather and enjoyed any family gathering.  He could make anyone smile and people gravitated to him to just sit and chat. Dan was lovingly known as "Dan the Man" because he was welcoming to all.  Always had a smile on his face and a warm, firm handshake.

Dan spent 35 years delivering mail in Cedarburg, WI where he walked his route every day and knew everyone on his route.  He also worked in woodworking and cabinet making after his retirement from the post office.  He continued his woodworking skills for many years, making beautiful gifts for all his family and friends, most of them portraying his deep faith in Jesus.  He would make crosses, praying hands, angels, etc which he gave lovingly to anyone who asked.  He made frames for the cross stitch that his wife crafted.  He was a devoted follower of Jesus and active member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove for the past 10 years.  He loved to sing in the choir, read scripture during the service and help with communion whenever he was able.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marion R. Bode; parents, Daniel and Marion E. Bode; and his brother, Douglas Bode.

Dan is survived by his children, Dawn (Darcy) Ludwig, Dean (Connie) Bode, Dwight (Sue) Bode and Denise (Greg) Depies; grandchildren, Nic (Ani) Ludwig, Bryan (Sarah) Ludwig, Melissa (Dixon) Dehmer, Randy Bode, Ryan (Katie Hertel) Bode, Erin Bode, Sydney Depies and Katelyn Depies; great-grandchildren, Bennett, Felix, Norah and Brayden Ludwig; brother, David Bode.
